Authenticity is only part of the story — condition determines value.
Our grading service provides a professional, standardized assessment of each frame’s physical condition and originality.
WHY GRADING MATTERS
Eyewear collecting has matured into a global luxury category — and like art, watches, or trading cards, provenance and condition define long-term value.
Our grading system creates a consistent language for collectors, investors, and resellers to reference across the market.
Every grade issued by Second Chance Authenticators™ is backed by our permanent registry entry, high-resolution documentation, and verified date of inspection.

GRADING SCALE & STRUCTURE
Precision. Consistency. Credibility.
Every verified submission may also be professionally graded on a 1–10 scale, providing collectors, resellers, and appraisers with a definitive numeric benchmark for condition, originality, and completeness.
Our grading process goes beyond surface inspection — it evaluates the entire presentation of the eyewear, including all components, accessories, and packaging.
HOW GRADING WORKS
Each eyewear submission is assessed using our proprietary Second Chance Authenticators™ 10-Point Scale, factoring in the following criteria:
1. Frame Condition
Structural integrity (no warping, stress, or damage)
Original finish, patina, or plating retention
Absence of repairs or replacements
2. Lens Condition
Surface clarity, color consistency, and authenticity
Scratches, coating wear, or edge imperfections
Factory originality or verified custom (noted accordingly)
3. Hinge & Hardware Integrity
Smooth functionality, no corrosion or loss of tension
Original screws, pins, or hinges where applicable
4. Markings & Branding
Clarity and correctness of engravings, logos, or serial codes
Period accuracy based on production references
5. Completeness of Kit
Inclusion and condition of the original case, cleaning cloth, documentation, hang tags, extra lenses, or packaging
If aftermarket replacements are present, they are documented but lower the overall grade
