WHAT GRADING IS

What Is Eyewear Grading?

Eyewear grading is a condition-based evaluation performed alongside authentication. It records the visible physical condition of your eyewear at the time it is inspected by our specialists.

Grading is separate from authentication:

Authentication answers “Is it genuine?”
Grading answers “What condition is it in right now?”

Grading does not replace authentication or verification.

What We Examine During Grading

Grading focuses on both cosmetic and structural condition.

Physical Condition

  • Frame surface wear
  • Scratches or finish loss
  • Lens condition (if applicable)
  • Signs of repair or modification

Structural Integrity

  • Frame alignment
  • Hinge stability
  • Hardware wear
  • Stress points or fatigue

Condition Scale

  • 10 — Brand New
    Unused. No visible wear.
  • 8–9 — Like New
    Minimal handling marks.
  • 6–7 — Very Good
Light wear consistent with careful use.
  • 4–5 — Good
    Visible cosmetic wear. Fully functional.
  • 2–3 — Fair
    Heavy wear or noticeable flaws.
  • 1 — Poor
    Significant damage or defacement.

When Should You Add Grading?

Grading is commonly used for:
Resale listings
Insurance documentation
Collector archives
High-value eyewear
Condition transparency for buyers

How Grading Works With Authentication

Authentication

→ confirms authenticity

Verification

Important Notes

  • Grading is a professional opinion
  • Condition may change after inspection
  • Grading is not an appraisal
  • Grading does not guarantee resale outcomes
